about

I learned this from Enda McCabe when I was studying the Irish Language in Carraroe, Co. Galway. He learned it from a folk duo in Kent, England. It is a very old tale. Enda said from the Sufis.

I sang it at a farmers market once and someone gave me a Chinese version on paper. It is clearly at least 1500 years old and probably older. Folk tales usually are. Sometimes I tell people it came to us via The Silk Road.

Enda sings it with the farmer having a son. But a friend's daughter (who really likes the song) asked me to make it about a girl. So here it is.

about

Dusty Keleher Halifax, Nova Scotia

Dusty Keleher writes songs that tell a good story and searches out gems from the past that do the same.

Simply put, roots/traditional music that takes its cue from ancient Irish ballads and songs from the folk/rock canon. Original modern day tales on subjects far and near. From whatever genre and tradition he draws on, Dusty brings a heartfelt soul to all the songs he sings.
